When most people hear the street name Park Avenue, the first thought is likely of the famous home to designer shops and luxury apartments in New York. However, Detroit has its own Park Avenue with many hip spots worth your haunting – and it’s no Greek myth.
Centaur Bar, one of the many spots in the posh historic neighborhood, is located in the former Iodent Toothpaste Factory building. Occupying two Art Deco influenced floors, Centaur adds a unique flavor and sophisticated atmosphere to Detroit’s charm through its extensive menu of cocktails and small plates.
We suggest going in for a glass of their exclusive St M Riesling or their house Cabernet Sauvignon. But we also like to think the Dirty Girl Scout was made for us. Go on a weekday for happy hour from 4 – 7pm with food and $5 martini specials or go on Wednesday for half-off bottles of wine. Once you have your drink in hand, the live house music – spun by great Detroit House DJs like Bruce Bailey and Mike Clark – sets a mellow mood on Friday and Saturday. But any day, or night, you are sure to find a good time and a good drink.
